Day 4. The day I started to breathe a little easier.
Finley started off the morning with tolerating her oxygen being turned down a little. Throughout the morning they would adjust it down and then back up as needed, trying to wean her off of it completely eventually.
The doctor was pretty pleased with how she was doing, and said we could try nursing. Yay!
Getting to snuggle her close again was the best feeling ever! She ate like a champ and then took a nice long nap in my arms. She must have heard the nurses say that if she ate good she would get her feeding tube out, because when we went to change her diaper she got her hand up by her face and ripped it out several inches by herself. They went ahead and took it the rest of the way out since she had improved and shouldn’t need it anymore.
Jake’s mom and brother came and spent most of the afternoon with us, and we even got a visit from the Wichita Thunder hockey team! They weren’t allowed in Finley’s room, so Jake and I grabbed a picture instead!
When the doctor came back in to check on Finley, he was so pleased with how she was doing that he said we could break out of the PICU and go back to the regular children’s unit.
They tried to take her completely off of oxygen, but she didn’t last long before she needed to have it put back on. It was a little disappointing, but she had made a lot of progress so we didn’t let it get us down. I think this night was the best we slept since we had been there.
