Five years ago today this sweet boy made me a momma. He’s a hurricane of a little boy. He’s got the fiery red-headed temper, but he stands up for what he believes in. He can give some nasty looks, but his smile lights up our world. He’s the best big brother, and he has an amazing work ethic. He loves Jesus more than anything and isn’t afraid to show it. We’ve been told by several people that they think he will be a preacher someday. If someone is visibly sad, he doesn’t hesitate to walk up to them and pray for them. He has the kind of faith that I want to have.

I love being his momma, as exhausting as it is at times. That boy is just like me, and we are both headstrong and don’t like to back down. He tries my patience, but he teaches me so much. He taught me about unconditional love and grace, and that as much as I love my little red-headed boy, God loves him even more. I love watching him grow, and as sad as it makes me that he’s growing up so fast, I’m so incredibly proud of him.

The other day he came home after a day at the farm and told me “momma, we don’t ever quit until the job is done. Daddy told me that, and his daddy told him that, and grandpa Gary told him that.” He’s a little sponge and he applies what he learns to life even now. We can’t go anywhere or do anything until his calves are fed and taken care of.

I don’t know what he will do when he grows up, but I know that whatever he chooses he will put his whole heart into.
