There are so many reasons why I love Grady’s preschool. First and foremost is that it is a Christian preschool and has the absolute best teachers. They instill Jesus so well into those little minds and souls, and I am so grateful to have that option. They are also so hands on and I feel like the kids have so much fun learning. Grady loves school so much and he asks every morning if it’s school day. Last week at preschool it was farm week. The first half of the week they had a brand new John Deere tractor outside of the school and the kids all got to look inside and learn about tractors and what they do.
Apparently ever since I took Elsa to school I am now referred to as “Farmer Caitlin”. While the kids were checking out the tractor apparently they spotted a piece of pink tape and thought that it must mean the tractor was Farmer Caitlin’s. Oh how farmer Jake wishes that were true!
The second half of the week the kids got to visit a real farm, and they LOVED it! My friend Katie hosted it on her absolutely gorgeous farm and she did an amazing job.
Here is “Farmer Katie” with the kids and miss Ruby Sue. The kids learned that Ruby was 3 years old; the same age as them. They also learned that she weighs about 1,000 pounds, that a saddle is used for riding, and that cowboys ride horses to catch their cows.
My handsome “Farmer Jake” was nice enough to come teach the kids about wheat and milo. He taught them when we plant and harvest and showed them a toy combine like what we harvest with. They learned that the wheat is eventually turned into flour to make yummy treats like cookies and muffins. He did great explaining the crops to them where they could understand and they all got to take home a bag of wheat and milo seed.
After they learned that our crops are planted in the dirt, they got to enjoy some yummy dirt cups!
Cowboy Jay came from the sale barn and taught the kids about cattle. They all got to hand feed the calves pellets and learned that our milk, hamburger, and delicious beef jerky all come from cattle. They also learned that we use ear tags to identify our cattle, and each child got to take home their own ear tag. We also had two goats there that the kids got to see and learn about, but I was slacking and didn’t get a picture of them.
Seriously, I think Katie’s calling is party planning because this girl did an amazing job! She had the most adorable photo props for the kids to use and even printed off mini Polaroid’s for all the kids (moms) to remember the day.
I had fun and I was just a helper, so I know the kids all had a blast too!
Farm Bureau was even nice enough to donate Kailey Ag books for each kid! We have them and love them all. They are the perfect children’s books to help teach agriculture.
