Tonight I got to have a date night with my farmer. Well, not really a date since I had both kids in the truck with me and he was across the field on the 4 wheeler. But it’s the thought that counts. We listened to Garth Brooks, took pictures of daddy, changed a dirty diaper, and danced to the radio. My kind of fun.

When I was first introduced to the farm life I didn’t know the reason behind why they burn fields. They burn the stubble to reduce the residue on top of the ground so that they have a nice clean seed bed. Normally they will plow and turn the stubble under, but with all of the rain we have had this summer it was too wet to get in the field and now it is too late in the season to plow. It is also a good way to cook the rye seed so that it won’t germinate, and I like that. The less rye we have in the fields, the less rye we have to pick.
